No one likes to imagine what they would do, if they found themselves in the unenviable position of having to deal with a stalker. Unfortunately, because of a few concerning factors, this is now a matter that all of us has to take seriously.

In the end, whether it involves SMS messages, phone calls, or a combination of these things, it is important to know exactly when you are dealing with a stalker. When you are capable of identifying the warning signs, dealing with the problem is going to prove to be a considerably more straightforward situation, even if it remains a situation you nonetheless never hope to find yourself in.

The Threat Of Online Stalking

When we find out that a friend or family member has become the victim of aggressive online stalking, we naturally feel sympathetic towards their plight. However, at the same time, there is a very good chance that we’re thinking something along the lines of “thank goodness it isn’t happening to me!”

Unfortunately, it can happen to you. Thanks to the myriad of ways in which companies or individuals can get ahold of your contact information, and because there are now so many methods of communication available to us, stalking is more a problem than ever before. If you find yourself in this position, it is absolutely imperative that you learn how to identify the red flags.

The problem with stalking via phone or SMS is that it is very easy to make yourself a welcome prey to people or companies. While stalking is often associated with a personal relationship between two people, or is at least understood to be a concept associated with one person knowing the other, the truth of that matter is that stalking can arise from virtually any scenario imaginable. The main component to any stalking situation is that someone’s personal information has been compromised in some capacity. Simply put, as long as someone can access your info, the potential for stalking is indeed very real.

Of course, there are several things you can do that can potentially offset the likelihood of becoming a victim of a stalker. You can refrain from giving out private information online, with very few exceptions to that rule, or you can create strong passwords to protect your email and other vital accounts. You can avoid downloading any attachments you didn’t personally ask for. These are just three of the things you can do that will increase your personal safety.

However, even with every safeguard imaginable in place, you can still find yourself being forced to deal with varying degrees of phone or SMS harassment. To that end, you want to be aware of the warning signs.

Am I Being Stalked?

In order to determine whether or not you are being stalked, ask yourself where the calls/SMS messages are coming from. Threatening messages/calls, disruptive messages/calls, strange numbers, as well as the party in question refusing to listen to your requests to be left alone, are all indicators that you are dealing with some degree of stalking.
